Prepare for the growing season this April
Here are a few simple tips now the warmer weather is approaching of how we can begin to prepare our gardens for the oncoming growing season!
Climbers may be looking messy at this time of year, with the change of season, new growths will be coming through and looking a little unruly.
Be sure to tie in new shoots to the supports, not only will this help them against the wind and the rain but it will also keep the plant looking tidy.
Now is the time to keep on top of those pesky weeds as it’s not just plants and flowers growing this time of year!
If you take the time now to get rid of them it will save you time further into the year before they become established.
If your lawn is looking worse for wear after the cold winter months it may be worth looking into scarifying the lawn to remove any moss and thatch then top dressing with a sandy loam soil.
You can then over-seed with an amenity grass seed, this will give your lawn a luscious new look for the year.
Other lawns may just need trimming with the first cut of the year and treating with a weed and feed.
Look out for Aphids particularly on young shoots and leaves and wipe them away before they multiply.
You can create a mild solution of water and a few drops dish soap and apply to your plant every couple of days, within a few weeks the aphids should be gone completely.
